Sharing the Word (Scripture)

This is a small friendly group that meets at 8.00pm on Tuesday evenings in the Parish Centre to
consider the readings for the following Sunday. It has just broke up for the summer break but will
begin meeting again on Tuesday 6 September. It is open to everybody but may be of particular
interest to readers, children's liturgists or musicians; no special knowledge is required. Some people
come most weeks and others only occasionally; the choice is yours. We start by sharing a drink
(tea/coffee/wine) and something to eat (biscuits/cake/ chocolates) whilst we catch up on our news.
Then we read aloud the three readings for the following Sunday from the Mass books. We take
each reading in turn and discuss what we think the significant points are, what it meant to the
people it was written for and what it means to us now; there are no right or wrong answers! Some
of us have usually looked at the readings before the meetings and done some background reading
or research on the internet where there are some interesting and helpful websites. We finish about
9.00pm by reading The Wednesday Word which hopefully sums up our thoughts on the readings.
We all find enormous benefit from these meetings in that the readings are more accessible when
we hear them again on Sunday.

Lectio Divina

The group meets on a Wednesday morning after morning Mass at 10:00am to pray the gospel and
share their reflections.
