Our Parish

St Peter & St Paul's..

is the local Catholic Parish for Wakefield, south of the river. It extends from Heath Common in the east, through Crofton and Walton to Sandal, Kettlethorpe and the areas around Crigglestone & Durkar- stretching to West Bretton and the southern boundary of both West Yorkshire and our diocese.

About 500 people attend Sunday Mass every week: there are services and meetings here every day.

The church was built in 1992, replacing St Peter & St Paul's on Barnsley Road which was built as a war memorial in 1926, and St George's Kettlethorpe, built in 1957.

Special features are the stone altar and ambo (lectern) and font, with running water, and the bronze tabernacle, aumbry and candle holder. A triptych depicts Blessed John Bretton, of Sandal.

Let the Church- full or empty- "enfold" you in prayer, or use the day chapel for some quiet time.

The parish centre with the "upper room" gives ample space for social functions or meetings. It has facilities for hot drinks and a licensed bar. It can be hired. The centre is open for tea and coffee after all weekend Masses, and the bar after 6:30 and 11:30 Masses.

There is wheelchair access to most of the building (and WC) and a loop hearing system in Church.

Clergy

The Parish Priest is Barrie Senior and the Deacon is Nick Shields.

We are in the Diocese of Leeds ( Bishop Arthur Roche)

Activities

Parishioners collaborate in the work, worship and activities of the parish. The name and phone number of the chairman or woman of the Parish Pastoral Council is on the notice board in the narthex (porch) together with copies of the weekly Parish Bulletin which gives details of services, times and events.
