A new lectionary is coming into use from Advent Sunday this year and because of this you have a unique opportunity to make a dedication to a loved one in one of the new books. The cost to sponsor a full lectionary is £200 and the cost for an individual dedication to be displayed in the front of a lectionary is £20. Dedication forms are available in the Narthex for you to take, complete, and return to the Parish Office no later than Sunday 3rd November.
The Lectionary, which is the book that contains the Scripture readings for Mass and the Sacraments, is changing as part of the continuing process of revising liturgical translations. The process began with the Roman Missal in 2011 and has continued with all the other liturgical texts. The new Lectionary will use the English Standard Version – Catholic Edition of the Bible and the Abbey Psalter. The changes are intended to make the biblical translations more faithful to the original languages, biblical scholarship, and to provide a text for use in a more proclaimable liturgical setting and includes the saints added to the calendar since 1981. The Catholic Edition of the Standard English Translation emphasises ‘word-for-word’ accuracy, literary excellence, and depth of meaning. Work on the Catholic Edition was done by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India in collaboration with the publisher Crossway. The Abbey Psalms are a revised version of the Grail Psalms translation. The new translation will be used from the 1st Sunday of Advent.
