Welcome to Our Church

A warm welcome to all of our visitors

About St Peter and St Paul's Wakefield

Welcome to our Parish of St Peter and St Paul's, a Roman Catholic Parish under the Diocese of Leeds, where Mass is celebrated daily.

Who We Are

The church was built in 1992, replacing St Peter & St Paul’s on Barnsley Road which was built as a war memorial in 1926 and served from St Austin’s until 1954 when the parish was founded, and St George’s Kettlethorpe, built in 1957. The chapel of ease of St Joseph at Crofton, finally closed in 2008. Special features of the church are the stone altar and ambo (lectern) and font, with running water, and the bronze tabernacle, aumbry and paschal candle holder. A triptych depicts a local martyr, Blessed John Bretton, of Sandal.

Where to find us

At the junction of Asdale Road and Standbridge Lane, south of Wakefield: from the south- M1 (J39) take the A636 to Wakefield and turn right at the second roundabout (signposted Sandal): drive past the lakes (look out for geese and swans) then on the left, a big Asda- we are opposite: you can clearly see our orb and cross on top of the church: turn right at the mini-roundabout, and right again to the car park. This route is probably easiest approaching from the north or west via M1/M62, too.
Satnav: WF2 7NR is unique to us.
