The Sacrament of Baptism

One of the seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church

Baptism is one of the "three" sacraments of Christian initiation - Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist.

Church Teaching

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God.‟ Catechism - 1213". Parents and godparents promise to bring the child up in the practise of the faith and a key thing here is that they, in their own lives, are faithful member of the parish community.

Scriptural Reference:

Our Lord Jesus teaches us that Baptism is necessary for our salvation.

"Amen, Amen, I say to thee, unless a man be born again of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." Jn3:5.
